The term Swedish Massage refers to a variety of techniques specifically designed to relax muscles by applying pressure to them against deeper muscles and bones, and rubbing in the same direction as the flow of blood returning to the heart. It involves the use of kneading, stroking, friction, tapping, and vibration and may provide relief from stiffness, numbness, pain, constipation, and other health problems.

The main purpose of Swedish massage is to increase the oxygen flow in the blood and release toxins from the muscles. Other possible benefits include stimulation of circulation. It is particularly loved by people who enjoy a deeper massage that is also profoundly relaxing.

Hot stone therapy relieves muscle aches and pain, helps anxiety fade away and aids your mind to relax at the deepest level. Basalt stones are sanitized in hot water, cooled to a comfortable temperature and placed along the spine to help melt away tension. While these layout stones are delivering concentrated centers of heat, the therapist is massaging the client with oiled, heated stones along the muscles of the legs, arms, and torso areas. The heat from the stones relaxes muscles, increases the blood flow to the area being worked on, which allows reaching deeper tissues effortlessly.

Huna originates from Hawaii and is a beautiful and unique technique, using forearms, hands and elbows to flow. The flow is created by a special footwork that is described as a dance around the table.

This dance with a variation of speed and pressure creates a rhythmical wave-like movement under and over the body allowing it to open and heal. The inner rhythm within the body allows people’s bodies to come back into balance physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. For the full experience, book one hour and a half.

Body Scrubs and Wraps

During our Salt Glow treatment, we use natural ingredients to gently massage and exfoliate the skin over most of your body. This will remove any accumulated dead skin cells and toxins on the surface, and promote further detoxification as circulation is increased.

When you shower off, your skin will be tingling and feel silky smooth. Besides leaving you feeling just plain wonderful, Salt Glow will enhance the results you will achieve from your cleanse.

Organic seaweed is a rich source of organic proteins, minerals and vitamins including vitamins B12 (not found in land plants), vitamin E, and other nutrients.
When applied to the skin, seaweed treatments act as a powerful detoxifier that draws out toxins and impurities, including heavy metals, while adding beneficial nutrients. It is said to have antioxidant properties that help to reduce the appearance of wrinkles, and it can be used to stimulate the body’s circulation which helps to minimize cellulite while infusing the skin with moisture for a healthy glowing skin.

Seaweed contains fatty acids that can help combat skin irritation and inflammation; and may assist with skin ailments such as acne, psoriasis and eczema. It may also be very beneficial for those who are trying to quit smoking, or to get rid of other toxin accumulations in the system. Seaweed is suitable for all skin types.

Caution: Seaweed is stimulating for kidneys and thyroid. People with advanced kidney issues or taking thyroid medications may be offered a Herbal Body Wrap instead in order to avoid over-stimulation of already sensitive body systems.

Herbal poultices and body wraps have just as long a history of use as seaweeds. In fact, herbal wraps have been used for treating wounds, bruises, sore muscles, sprains, and various skin conditions for centuries, as well as for detoxification and beauty treatments.

As you relax in the warmth of thermal blankets, your skin will be soothed and nourished, muscles will be eased, and toxins will be drawn from your body: an all-over enhancement to your cleansing experience. After showering you will receive a Swedish massage to help enhance the cleansing and healing process.

Caffeine is a vasodilator, which means it relaxes blood vessels in the skin. This action works to make blood vessels more supple and firmer very quickly, which is reflected in your skin texture.

Due to this effect this treatment may be very beneficial for those who combat the occurrence of varicose or spider veins, as well reduce the appearance of cellulite.

Backs are often forgotten when it comes to being part of our cleansing routine. Our Fresh Start Back Treatment is designed to thoroughly cleanse your back using the same fresh, natural ingredients that we use in our facials.

Warm herbal compresses will gently steam open the pores and help loosen dead surface skin cells that will then be removed with exfoliation.

Swedish massage follows and then either a kelp or whole foods mask will be applied to continue the cleansing. As the treatment progresses, circulation throughout your back is increased and the detoxification process is enhanced. At the same time, you will feel relaxed and refreshed.

Electro Dermal Screening Test (EDST) is an electro-acupuncture diagnostic method, which allows determining specific food sensitivities, candida presence, as well as imbalance in the main body systems. This method was invented in the 1950’s by the German Doctor Reinhold Voll whose name is given to another title of this treatment modality, EAV or Electro Acupuncture According to Voll.

Dr. Voll discovered that when an internal organ’s function or structure changes, the performance of the related meridian and acupuncture points also changed, and that this change could be measured using the device. Much like measuring the flow of a river. If the flow is swift, it may be an indication that the corresponding organ or system is in a state of inflammation. A sluggish reading would point to a deficiency or fatigue in the organ or system.

EDST session is performed by N.D. and includes the test, the results report and a consult on how to work with the issues that came up during the test.

Please note: Fresh Start may not be able to accommodate food sensitivities discovered during your test. This information is for you to use in daily life when you get home. We WILL accommodate serious or severe known allergies that are indicated prior to arrival on your health forms.

At this moment we are not able to provide a high level of instant customization of drinks. Please do not give to our chef or other staff the report with your findings. Thank you for your understanding.

In its essence, Bowen therapy resets the body to heal itself. Everyone can benefit from this technique, from newborns to elderly.
The Bowen Technique consists of a number of gentle movements over a client’s muscles, bones and connective tissues at the precise location without sliding on the skin, first in their natural direction, and then in the opposite direction.  This stimulates the nervous system at the exact points requiring attention and makes surrounding fascia more fluid. As a result blood and lymph circulation at the site of injury increases, and healing accelerates.

Bowen, the author of the technique, compared it with guitar tuning since the harmonious vibrations created by this technique rebalance the body and can release blocked emotional energy.

Chi Nei Tsang is a non-invasive method of abdominal massage. It makes use of the energy flow of all major systems in the body: digestive, respiratory, cardiovascular, integumentary, lymphatic, nervous, fasciae tendon-muscle, acupuncture meridian, etc. Chi Nei Tsang can help increase the energy flow into the internal organs by specific manipulations and through massaging a series of points in the navel area. CNT frees the blockages in the abdomen and guides the healing energy through the entire body.

Benefits of Chi Nei Tsang

  • Relief from tension and pain
  • Reduces abdominal pains
  • Helps aid in digestion and assimilation
  • Improves elimination
  • Breathe more fully and effortlessly
  • Releases physiological and emotional blocks
  • Detoxify and strengthen weak or damaged organs
  • PMS, cysts, and other female orders

How does it Work?

The Taoist sages of ancient China observed that humans often develop energy blockages in their internal organs that result in knots and tangles in their abdomens. These obstructions constrict the flow of Chi (energy). The negative emotions of fear, anger, anxiety, depression, and worry cause the most damage. Problems can also be caused by overwork, stress, accidents, surgery, drugs, toxins, poor food, and bad posture. If the negative emotions can’t find an outlet, they fester in the organs or move into the abdomen, the body’s garbage dump. Abdomen is the center of body’s vital functions. It can process some emotional garbage, but more often it can’t keep up with the flow. The energetic center of the body located at the navel becomes congested and cut off from the rest of the body. But working on the abdomen, a practitioner assists the body in removal of the energy blockages.

This massage is focused on pain relief work.

A favorite amongst athletes, deep tissue massage helps release resistant knots to create a better range of motion for joints and muscles.

It focuses on damaged tissue and knots with its deep, precise massage techniques. It uses appropriate pressure to promote the healing of scar tissue as well as relief from the pain of soft tissue injuries, chronic conditions, stress and tension.

Myofascial Release is a safe and very effective hands-on technique that involves applying gentle sustained pressure into the Myofascial connective tissue restrictions to eliminate pain and restore motion.

Fascia is a specialized system of the body that has an appearance similar to a spider’s web or a sweater. Fasciae are similar to ligaments and tendons as they have collagen as their major component. They differ in their location and function: ligaments join one bone to another bone, tendons join muscle to bone, and fasciae surround muscles or other structures. Fasciae attaches, stabilizes, encloses, and separates muscles and internal organs. Fascia is classified by layer: there are superficial fasciadeep fascia (surrounds individual or bundles of muscles), and visceral (surrounding internal organs) fascia.

Fascia is very densely woven, covering and interpenetrating every muscle, bone, nerve, artery and vein, as well as, all of our internal organs including the heart, lungs, brain and spinal cord. The most interesting aspect of the fascial system is that it is not just a system of separate coverings. It is actually one continuous structure that exists from head to toe without interruption. In this way, you can begin to see that each part of the entire body is connected to every other part by the fascia, like the yarn in a sweater.

Fascia plays an important role in the support and function of our bodies, since it surrounds and attaches to all structures. In the normal healthy state, the fascia is relaxed and wavy in configuration. It has the ability to stretch and move without restriction. When one experiences physical trauma, emotional trauma, scarring, or inflammation, however, the fascia loses its pliability. It becomes tight, restricted, and a source of tension to the rest of the body. Trauma, such as a fall, car accident, whiplash, surgery or just habitual poor posture and repetitive stress injuries has cumulative effects on the body. The changes trauma causes in the fascial system influences comfort and function of our body. Fascial restrictions can exert excessive pressure causing all kinds of symptoms producing pain, headaches or restriction of motion. Fascial restrictions affect our flexibility and stability, and are a determining factor in our ability to withstand stress and perform daily activities.

Trauma, inflammatory responses, and/or surgical procedures create Myofascial restrictions that can produce tensile pressures of approximately 2,000 pounds per square inch on pain sensitive structures that do not show up in many of the standard tests (x-rays, myelograms, CAT scans, electromyography, etc.)

Each Myofascial Release Treatment session is performed directly on skin without oil. This enables the therapist to accurately detect fascial restrictions and apply the appropriate amount of sustained pressure to facilitate release of the fascia.

One of Tui Na’s advantages over simple massage is its ability to focus on specific problems, especially chronic pain associated with the muscles, joints, and skeletal system. It’s especially effective for joint pain (such as arthritis), sciatica, muscle spasms, and pain in the back, neck, and shoulders. It also helps chronic conditions such as insomnia, constipation, headaches (including migraines), and the tension associated with stress.

Tui Na does not simply work on the muscles, bones, and joints. It works with the energy of the body at a deeper level. As the practitioner senses the client’s body with her hands, she is able to assess the distribution of energy and affect its flow.

Tui Na is the form of Asian bodywork that uses many techniques that are used in a massage. It includes gliding (known as effleurage or Tui), kneading (petrissage or Nie), percussion (tapotement or Da), friction, pulling, rotation, rocking, vibration, and shaking. Despite the similarities, the intent of Tui Na is more specifically therapeutic than the simple relaxation of a Swedish-style massage. The style of Tui Na practiced in China today is closer to the work of chiropractors, osteopaths, and physical therapists than to that of massage therapists.

To those who’ve experienced both acupressure and Shiatsu, a Tui Na session may seem like a cross between the two. Like Shiatsu, Tui Na uses rhythmic compression along energy channels of the body, as well as a variety of techniques that manipulate and lubricate the joints. Like acupressure, Tui Na directly affects the flow of energy by holding and pressing the body at acupressure points.

Visceral manipulation therapy is a form of therapy based on gentle massage and manipulation of the viscera (the main cavities of the body located within the cavities such as the intestines). It was developed by a French osteopath named Jean-Pierre Barrel, so it has strong links to osteopathy and is based on many of its underlying principles.

Osteopaths believe in a holistic interpretation of health that views the body not as various isolated parts, but as one whole that must work in unison. Their belief then is that a seemingly unrelated joint issue a limb or even an illness, might be caused by problems with the spine. In visceral manipulation the focus is instead on the organs and here manipulation is used to try and improve their function by releasing tension and irritations. The belief is that organs normally move to an extent as a result of pressures exerted by surrounding tissues, ligaments and joints, and that when this movement is interrupted the function of the organ is affected and the circulatory system and other connections may be blocked. Thus by massaging the area and restoring normal ‘movement’ the intention is to treat and prevent a range of problems.

May be beneficial for:

  • Joint pain
  • Range of motion
  • Back and joint pain
  • Recovery from muscle and joint injury
  • Headaches and migraines (through the relief of physical stress)
  • Improve mood (through the release of serotonin) and digestion
  • Release stress

What to Expect

When attending a visceral manipulation session, you may be sat in a massage chair or asked to lie on a table depending on the therapist and the location of your problems. Most visceral massage therapy focuses on the abdominal cavity so you can expect deep tissue massage used to find restrictions and blockages and then to help release the tension.

How Does Visceral Massage Therapy Work?

Visceral massage therapy will massage areas where you might be feeling discomfort with the intention of aiding the function of the organs.

Learn to adapt poses for your body type, injury or illness. During your private lesson the instructor will be able to see areas that need improvement and will include specific postures and breathing exercises tailored to your individual needs.

The benefits of learning yoga one on one is that you can progress further, learn more quickly, and move at your own pace. Use this experience to learn how to incorporate yoga at home and for your own personal growth.

The Heart Healing session may be helpful to anyone who is dealing with fear, grief, uncertainty, or other life circumstances that feel beyond his/her control. It is for the person who needs to be heard and supported, to increase personal awareness, and to move forward.

We sincerely hope that this session will help one gain clarity in his/her sense of self and life direction, and to become witness of his/her authentic self.  The practitioner will do her best to help you acknowledge your true natural way of being; together you’ll discuss ways to notice and change behaviors that no longer serve you.

Here is what our guests have said:

“I was hesitant to do this session, as I had life coaching before, and it was not very helpful to me. I went, because this service was suggested to me by the Program Director, and I trusted it may be good for me. I had experience with many life coaches before. The coached worked on more than just the mental level – she worked also on spiritual and energetic levels, which is so crucial when you deal with addictions and behavioral patterns.

Those cannot be addressed by merely talking about what you should or should not do. You need to be able to help the person start changing a pattern, and this is what the coaching was able to help me hugely with.”

“The coach had this amazing ability to take you to the very root of your issue. She was able to do in 1 hour the same work that it took for the counselor I worked with before 10 years.”

Here are the areas you can work on during your coaching sessions:

  • Personal Growth
  • Stress Management Coaching
  • Bereavement Coaching
  • Confidence & Self Esteem
  • Empowerment
  • Achieving Balance
  • Wellness related issues
  • Organization & Productivity
  • Spiritual awareness and growth
  • Quit smoking coaching / other addiction

Any habit that does not serve you anymore, be it need for motivation in changing of lifestyle habits, having a cup of wine too often, lack of daily structure has underlying causes and reasons, including lack of self-love and overachieving personality. These sessions will help you focus on these and to start building a bridge to a new life you’ll enjoy. Note: For Quit Smoking, see Stop Smoking Sessions.

These sessions can be transformational and life changing. You may be suggested 1 to 3 sessions, depending on length of your stay and need. Though sessions are highly customized to what an individual needs, here is approximately what will be covered:

Session 1: is to get to know you, talk about your habits/addictions, how they came about, how often they show up, and how the addictions serve you. Once this pattern is realized it helps understand, release and repattern. From this assessment, you will be given strategic tools to use to increase your awareness of the habit/addiction and then tools to reprogram and release, creating new health patterns.

Session 2: We will discuss what you have been noticing, and how the patterns have show up for you. When discussing where you are now, often other personal emotions show up, such as fear and uncertainty that are linked into the created habit/addiction. We will talk about emotional wellness and stability. Which may include ancestral and genetic patterning, which can also be released.  This will give you greater control over the habits that do not serve you, that may not totally be yours in the first place. Here you will learn tools and techniques, to increase your personal value of self.

Session 3: Is all about how to continue as a healthy whole when you return home to your environment. Once one has insight into their addiction, realized self-compassion and regained their personal power, life becomes quite pleasant.

Follow appointment when home is also possible if needed.

If you are ready to make this big step in your life and to part with your “nicotine buddy” for good (whether you are planning to quit here or before), these in-depth coaching sessions may be able to help you go through the grieving process and to address the void that you may feel in your heart and social surroundings, as well as some fears you may be dealing with after quitting.

Important Tips:

We hope you have already made a decision to leave cigarettes at home, maybe even to quit several days or weeks prior, or to smoke the last cigarette before leaving the airport. Such scenarios would be best, and not only because this may alleviate your physical detox symptoms. We have found that this is what most guests who come to us do and suggest others to do. This helps one commit 100% to accomplishing the goal and to be truly successful in overcoming the habit. It is so easy to think: “I’ll do it tomorrow”.

The truth is: “There is no tomorrow”. Tomorrow is the result of decisions and choices we made yesterday. Tomorrow is just a myth that does not exist.  If you decide inside yourself, that it is your time, nothing, absolutely nothing will be able to stop you. And if you ask yourself a question: “Am I ready? Is this the right time for me to do it? – You’ll know the answer instantly.

Note: It is fine if you are not ready to quit at the moment and come to us with different goals. However, it is best if you know about it prior to coming, to avoid disappointment and to be able to accept it.  We’ll support you in that decision… Yet if quitting smoking is truly your goal at this time, please make a solid plan how and when. It is so important! If you prefer to take the last cigarette at the time of your retreat with us, Theresa will be happy help you develop the “quitting plan”. Just let her and us know in advance that this is the help you would like to receive.

What is included in your Stop Smoking Coaching Sessions?

The description of the sessions below is just a sample, to share with you what Quit Smoking coaching can do for you. Your session will be unique to you and customized to your needs and situation.

Session 1

  • We would review your smoking history. Get you to look deeper into the reasons you started smoking. Everyone who smokes has their reasons for smoking. It may be a result of habit or addiction, or both. You may like how it makes you look or feel. Or, maybe you feel like it helps you relax, boosts your energy, gives you time to yourself, or helps you control your weight. Smoking could also be something that you share with others. I will tailor the tools necessary to best suit you and your needs.
  • We will make a date to completely quit, if you haven’t already done that. Before that date start noticing every time you go to have a cigarette. Ask yourself can I go without this one. Can I put it off a little longer? Start replacing the craving, the behaviour with positive behaviour and distractions. Like a glass of water.

Session 2

  • We will assess where you are in your process. Look to see if there are hidden subconscious beliefs that need to be addressed. We will make conscious and unconscious energetic adjustment so you have more control of the process. E.F.T. ®, T.A.T. ®, and Matrix Energetics® are tools I combine for this purpose. The results from these tools never cease to amaze me.
  • Learning to recognize your smoking triggers is an important part of quitting. When do you feel the urge to smoke? Common triggers include: drinking coffee or alcohol, relaxing after work or after a meal, walking, on the phone or when driving, feeling stressed or angry.
  • Take a look at how you can break the association between smoking and your routines. Here I will provide you with TAT technique which is a quick and easy energetic way to stop the craving. On completion of second session we will also do matrix energetics, it is an energetic transformation technique which will shift your energetic patterns of addiction to one of non-addiction.

Session 3

  • The third session will be a follow up of how you are doing and where you still need help and encouragement. I will listen, and together we will assess and provide tools and a plan to help you continue on your journey of being a non-smoker.

Disclaimer: Please remember that the biggest part of success is your firm decision to be free from a habit, your readiness to let go of your old friend, whose friendship is toxic to your health and life. Is this pain big enough to let it go? Are you ready to let it go? Are you willing to let it go now? Remember that there is nothing more powerful and effective as human desire to change. We are here to support and encourage you. The same goes for all emotional health work you do with us.

For the first treatment please book 90 min

Acupuncture is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) practice that originated thousands of years ago. It is based on the premise that a blockage or disturbance in the flow of energy, or “qi”, is a common cause health issues. Acupuncturists insert hair-thin needles to specific points throughout the body to restore the flow of qi to balance the body’s energy, stimulate healing, and promote relaxation.

According to TCM theory, there are over 1000 acupuncture points on the body, each lying on an invisible energy channel, or “meridian.” Each meridian is associated with a different organ system.

Conditions Acupuncture can be useful in addressing:

  • Arthritis
  • Chronic pain (such as headaches, lower back pain, neck pain)
  • Depression
  • Insomnia
  • Migraines
  • Nausea
  • Sciatica
  • Sinus congestion
  • Stress and anxiety
  • Tinnitus
  • Weight loss

Some people use acupuncture to promote fertility. It is also used to quit smoking and as a component of the treatment for other addictions.

Research on Acupuncture:

Low Back Pain

A 2013 systematic review of trials found that acupuncture was more helpful for non-specific chronic low back pain than no treatment.

Tension Headaches

A 2016 review (involving 12 trials and 2349 participants) suggests that acupuncture (involving at least six sessions) may help people with frequent tension headaches.

A 2006 review of 22 trials (involving 4985 participants) found that adding acupuncture to the treatment of migraines reduces the frequency of episodes and may be at least effective as medication used to reduce the frequency of migraine episodes.

Knee Pain

An analysis of previously published studies found that acupuncture improved physical function in the short and long term in people with chronic knee pain due to osteoarthritis, but it appeared to provide only short-term (up to 13 weeks) relief of pain.

Typically, an acupuncture will use six to 15 tiny needles per treatment (the number of needles doesn’t indicate the intensity of the treatment). You may feel a slight sting as the needle is being inserted. The needles are often left in for 10 to 20 minutes. The acupuncturist may twist the needles for added effect. If you experience pain, numbness, or discomfort during the treatment, you should notify your acupuncturist immediately.

Your acupuncturist may use additional techniques during your session including:

  • Moxibustion. Also known as “moxa”, moxibustion involves the use of heated sticks (made from dried herbs) held near the acupuncture needles to warm and stimulate the acupuncture points.
  • CuppingGlass cups are applied to the skin so that there is a suction effect. In TCM theory, cupping is used to relieve stagnation of qi and blood.
  • Herbs. Chinese herbs may be given in the form of teas, pills, and capsules.
  • Electroacupuncture. An electrical device is connected to two to four acupuncture needles, providing a weak electrical current that stimulates the acupuncture needles during the treatment.
  • Laser acupuncture. Said to stimulate acupuncture points without the use of needles.

Ear acupuncture, also known as auricular acupuncture, is sometimes used during the treatment for weight loss, smoking cessation, addictions, and anxiety.

Acupressure is a body treatment that accesses and releases blocked or congested energy centers in the body, located along energy pathways called Meridians – the same pathways that are used in Acupuncture. When these centers are blocked, a person may experience a lot of physical and emotional discomfort and pain.
Through the use of gentle, yet firm finger pressure on specific points and body-focusing techniques, Acupressure helps release physical and emotional tension, promoting a profound depth of relaxation.

Acupressure is accomplished with the client lying (supine) on the back and the therapist slides her hands underneath the client to push up and into the points within each client’s comfort level, allowing a general release of the tension in the muscles, as well as in the mind, and increased energy flow.  Specific points are held for 1 minute – 3 minutes.  Long-held emotions may also surface and dissipate. Sessions are held in a safe, supportive, and comfortable environment.

*For your acupressure session, please wear soft, comfortable clothing (no belts preferred).

Acupressure has been effectively used by people with the following health conditions and symptoms:

  • Tension and fatigue
  • Nausea
  • Stress-related headaches and migraines
  • Poor blood circulation
  • Gastrointestinal problems
  • Back and shoulder pain
  • Eye strain
  • Sinus pain
  • Allergies
  • Hormonal imbalances, including PMS and menstrual problems
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Nerve and muscle disorders
  • Shoulder, neck, leg and lower back pain
  • Tennis elbow
  • Muscle spasms
  • Joint stiffness
  • Teeth grinding
  • Insomnia
  • Electrolyte Imbalances
  • Emotional trauma
  • Depression

Reflexology is a focused pressure technique that is directed at the feet, hands and ears. It is based on the principle that there are reflexes on hands and feet which correspond to all parts, glands and organs of the body. By stimulating more than 7,000 nerves in the feet, reflexology encourages the opening and clearing of neural pathways.

Reflexology interrupts pain pathways, reducing pain. It improves immune function, by stimulating the lymphatic system.  It cleanses the body of toxins, takes down swelling in the feet, ankles and legs, stimulates the production of endorphins.  One feels an elevated mood and increased energy after the session.

Reflexology is a tremendously relaxing holistic treatment which can help to improve circulation, soothes tired feet, and encourages the body to work naturally to restore its balance.

This is a full body treat-ment! Enjoy the benefits of reflexology in combination to the rest of the body to be worked on.

In 1953 Marilyn Monroe became very ill while in Tokyo, Japan.  She failed to respond to Western Medical treatment.  She received Shiatsu sessions every day for a week and had a remarkable recovery.

Shiatsu was subsequently brought to North America due to its remarkable results.  Shiatsu is a non-invasive physical therapy that stimulates the body’s own healing powers.  It is carried out in prone, supine and lateral or side position with the client dressed in comfortable clothes.

The Shiatsu practitioner presses down on the areas of tension and holds each point for 3-5 seconds.  He/she also uses stretching techniques to encourage full range of motion, and by opening the flow of energy many symptoms of imbalance are corrected (including pain, & feeling tired and unwell).

Neuromuscular Shiatsu uses circular motions to ease the tension in sore or aching muscles, interrupting the pain cycle and facilitating free flow of energy and blood circulation.  Most people find Shiatsu to be a deeply relaxing treatment and after the session find they have more vitality and energy.

Shiatsu helps improve function of muscles and joints and calm nervous system, as well as has been found to be effective in relief of many acute and chronic conditions including:

  • Headaches and migraines
  • Neck, back and shoulder pain
  • Sciatica
  • Carpal tunnel syndrome
  • Thoracic outlet syndrome
  • Muscle tension and spasm
  • Insomnia
  • Poor digestion and constipation
  • Chronic fatigue syndrome
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Arthritis
  • Asthma
  • Anxiety and stress
  • Repetitive strain injuries, whiplash and sports injuries

During this combination full-body treatment, which includes elements of Shiatsu and Reflexology, the client may choose to remain fully dressed. Firm palm and finger pressure is used to re-vitalize the body.

This powerful treatment combination may be helpful for symptoms such as:

  • Headache
  • Premenstrual syndrome
  • Anxiety
  • Insomnia
  • Neck and shoulder pain
  • Tiredness
  • Stress
  • Constipation

Colonics are designed for cleansing the colon from mucoid plaque, parasites, Candida and other impurities, as well as for helping to reshape and tone the colon muscles. During the procedure temperature-controlled purified water is gently introduced into the colon through the rectum. Implants of electrolytes and organic chlorophyll, electrolyte drink, and an abdominal massage are included. Colonics are usually followed by sensations of feeling lighter, clean and energized and sometimes by 1 to 3 lbs. less on the scale.

Colonics may greatly enhance results of the detox program. Please ask for specific dates when they are available.

We use a specially prepared de-acidified organic coffee that assists the liver and gallbladder detox during a colonic session. It has become a standard procedure in helping people with cancer. According to Dr. Gerson’s case studies, such fast-killing cancers as pancreatic, lung, ovarian and childhood melanoma were reversed with the help of coffee enemas. Coffee contains enzymes called Palmitates that help the liver carry away the toxins in bile acid.

Palmitates in coffee increase the production of powerful free-radical-quenching enzymes Glutathione S-transferases (GST) by 700 times. These assist your liver to more effectively detoxify your entire body. The caffeine in the coffee stimulates peristaltic activity and dilates the bile ducts allowing toxins to be flushed through the gastro-intestinal tract.

Heart conditions and very high blood pressure. Also when a more gentle colonic with chlorophyll is best, also if there is a major inflammation of the GI tract or debilitation.

The infrared wave’s vibrations are similar to those of water and therefore have the capacity to penetrate very deep tissue, 0.5-1.5 inches, knocking toxins loose from body fat cells, and releasing them through sweating. This therapy can be effective for heavy metal or medication detoxification, arthritis, many skin conditions, weight loss, injuries, pain relief, and for promoting healing. It may also be helpful for reducing cellulite.

The treatment helps speed up removal of toxins from the body and often helps our guests get relief of pain caused by various causes. The treatment may be beneficial for people with headaches, gout and muscle pain. It may need to be repeated every 2nd or 3rd day for best results. Please note the results differ, depending on the cause of the condition. Remember that there is no such thing as a quick fix.

The treatment includes a 20-min herbal foot soak followed by a poultice.

Who Benefits:

Those, who were exposed to industrial or other chemicals, pesticides, or whose system is loaded with heavy metals. Those who quit smoking.

Purpose: During this treatment, heavy metals are neutralized and removed via feet using sea weed foot bath, while simultaneously thyroid gland is activated to enhance the detoxification. This treatment may be suggested by the Program Director in combination with Foot Detoxification Treatments, which assist in Heavy Metals Absorption and Elimination.

How is the Treatment Done:  Your feet are placed in a sea weed bath, which is alternated with cold water dips. In the same time a compress with sea weed is applied to the thyroid area.

This is a very gentle form of manual therapy, NOT A MASSAGE as such. The touch is light to moderate. Lymph drainage is a very specific technique that encourages elimination of metabolic waste, excess fluid and bacteria through stimulation of the lymphatic system:

  • It shifts the buildup of extra fluid that can be caused through injury, a bone fracture, breast cancer, prostate cancer, caesarian, vasectomy, any operation, a weak heart or physical inactivity.

  • It supports the immune system and makes elimination more efficient during cleansing. Lymphatic drainage massage is great for edema (swollen ankles and legs, puffy eyes) and other diseases related to venous insufficiency, promotes healing of scars and injuries, as well it may be helpful for sinusitis, arthritis, acne, other skin conditions, and post-operative healing.

  • Tip: It is best to exercise/go for 10-15 min walk right after your massage, if possible. This will assist in elimination of the released toxins.

This shorter version of lymph drainage is typically used when there is lymphedema of arms, a condition, in which lymph fluid accumulates in the body tissues and causes a painful swelling of the upper limb.

This ancient and oft-forgotten therapy is a very effective way to increase circulation in various parts of the body – enhancing healing, cleansing, as well as ability of cells to restore energy transmission and absorb nutrients. Historically, it was used by people with various ailments: lung conditions, neuropathy and others. The therapy includes alternation of hot and cold applications. It is not the same at the steam bath and has a very different effect on the body due to difference in application.

A special laser device is placed on specific areas of the body, including adrenals, thymus, vagus nerve and sacrum. Additionally, a few programs will be used for targeting problem areas. Relax, feel your breath deepening as the laser helps bring your hormonal system and entire body to homeostasis. The laser treatment is integrated with various massage therapy modalities.

Laser light can be very helpful for insomnia, pain relief, stress reduction, cravings related to smoking cessation, as well as being used to improve lymph circulation and enhance the immune system. According to published evidence, LT is at least equal to surgical and manual therapies for a range of pathologies including neck pain, tendonitis, tendinosis (chronic tendonitis), and osteoarthritis. It is also used for nerve and other tissue regeneration, soft tissue injuries, scars, chronic pain, especially temporomandibular-related pain, and wound healing.

How laser light works: it donates photons to the cells and stimulates production of ATP (Essentially the energy of cells), important for growth and regeneration of the cell, much like sun rays stimulate plants to produce energy for growing big and juicy fruit.

Laser Light also activates glands to produce hormones, acts positively on adrenals, and clears cellular memory, created as a result of stress and tension in the body. Tension traps energy and prevents its free flow through the body, which leads to rapid aging and disease. Everybody knows about the connection between stress and stomach ulcers.

Tension and trapped energy can also adversely influence liver and pancreas, and other organs. Releasing this tension will improve blood circulation and enhance the healing abilities of the body.

This treatment may be especially beneficial for people with intense back pain, as well as for those who have other type of persistent or severe muscle pain. It targets specific areas of pain and discomfort. Laser helps muscles relax and allows working them deeper.

Cosmetic acupuncture is a non-invasive treatment that involves using acupuncture to improve skin and fight the aging process. Sometimes referred to as an “acupuncture facelift” or “facial rejuvenation,” cosmetic acupuncture often is used as an alternative to surgical facelifts and other conventional procedures said to reverse signs of aging in the skin.

Cosmetic acupuncture may help reduce wrinkles, diminish fine lines, remove age spots, and lift droopy eyelids. However, please note that there are no quick fixes or instant “redo” with this therapy, as the external health is related to our internal health.

How Acupuncture Works

In traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), acupuncture has long been used to improve the flow of vital energy (called qi or chi) throughout the body. This vital energy is thought to circulate through invisible energy lines which are known as meridians.

According to traditional Chinese medicine, health problems occur as a result of blockages in the flow of vital energy. By inserting needles into specified points along meridian lines, acupuncturists aim to restore the flow of vital energy and, in turn, improve health.

How Does Cosmetic Acupuncture Work?

As you age, your skin’s inner layer loses collagen and, as a result, becomes less supple and firm. Cosmetic acupuncture is purported to improve skin and act as an anti-aging treatment in part by stimulating the production of collagen (a protein that acts as a major component of your skin).

These soothing and cooling compress or mask may be beneficial for people with rosacea. The ingredients are customized as per need and sensitivity to individual ingredients.

This treatment may be beneficial/soothing for people with dry skin or Eczema of hands.

Recline in a tranquil setting while applications of hand-made tinctures, compresses and healing balms are applied to your skin.   Experience the knowing hands of your therapist as he/she applies ancient techniques to energize, balance and relieve your skin.   Bask in a meditative state, as she uses gentle pressure and energetic touch to your skin, channels and pathways of your body, washing, smoothing, rejuvenating, and nourishing each level, as the balms infuse the layers.

  • As a rule, it is safe to think that people who require a “fresh start” and register to the cleansing program would benefit from an adrenal support.

  • The adrenals are pea-sized glands that are located above the kidneys.

  • Adrenal fatigue refers to a collection of signs and symptoms that result when these glands are functioning below an adequate level.

  • Intense and prolonged stress, acute or chronic infections and other conditions can lead to adrenal fatigue.

  • One of the main symptoms consists of fatigue that is not relieved by sleeping.

  • The adrenal glands are responsible for the release of hormones that have an effect on energy production and storage, immune function, heart rate, muscle tone, and other processes that enable one to cope with stress.

Composition of the New Adrenal Injection (A-Shot)

  • AMP: adenosine mono-phosphate, the precursor to adenosine-tri-phosphate
  • ATP energy storage molecule. Mitochondria (the cell’s powerhouse) burn sugars and fatty acids to release energy.
  • ATP drives all energy-requiring chemistry and biology in our bodies.
  • It should provide a “pick-me-up” for fatigued adrenal exhaustion cases.
  • CAFFEINE is a stimulant, but with quite complex biochemistry in various
  • tissues of the body. Often it will synergize and amplify the ingredients in
  • formulas, such as many common over-the-counter analgesics.
  • CHROMIUM is a blood sugar balancer.

The common denominator in healthy aging is without any doubt balanced blood sugar.

  • D-BIOTIN is a co-enzyme and plays a role in the metabolism of lipids, proteins and carbohydrates. It may also play a major role in DNA replication as it interacts with the DNA binding proteins known as histones.

  • METHYLFOLATE is involved in neurotransmitter synthesis and critical enzymatic reactions throughout the body. By depleting excess homocysteine, folate benefits cardiovascular health and nervous system function.

  • PROCAINE: is a tonic, particularly a neurotonic. It is used in neural therapy, and in geriatrics to reverse cognitive decline.

  • PYRIDOXINE (B6) is required for unitization of energy in the food you eat, production of red blood cells and proper functioning of nerves.

  • THIAMIN (B1) helps the body’s cells change carbohydrates into energy. Carbohydrates provide energy for the body.

A must for vegans! Often tremendously increases energy. Consult with N.D., whether you have symptoms of this important vitamin deficiency.

Benefits & Indications for Vitamin B12

  • Vitamin B12 is a key element for preserving a balance in the human body. In combination with other B-group vitamins, vitamin B12 ensures the smooth functioning of vital life processes of the human body. It is important for maintaining a healthy nervous system and DNA production. Vitamin B12 helps to regulate the formation of red blood cells in the body. B12 is important in maintaining and increasing energy levels in the human body.

  • If you suffer from bursitis, B12 is a key vitamin to hasten recovery. Talk with Dr. Maltais if you have this condition. People who have vegan and raw food diets often will have a deficiency and will need to consider taking it. Also, people who suffer from reflux or heartburn very likely are not absorbing B12.

  • Vitamin B12 helps to curb atherosclerosis and counter heart diseases and thrombosis. The synthesis of S-adenosylmethionine (SAMe), a compound involved in immune function and mood, depends on the association of folate and vitamin B12.

  • Studies indicate that absorption of Vitamin B12 decreases with an increase in age. Hence, an increased intake of vitamin B12 is extremely useful for adults above fifty. The recommended form of intake is via injection, since elderly people absorb this form better than food forms of vitamin B12. B12 aids in the cognitive function and heals neurological impairment within this group.

  • B12 could be obtained from animal food sources (dairy and meat). No reliable plant sources have found to contain this vitamin in usable by humans form. Vitamin B12 can be taken in the form of supplements sublingually (good) or via injections (best) and is highly beneficial in various forms.

  • Dr. Maltais uses Methyl cobalamin for Fresh Start clientele. Through this method, vitamin B12 can directly penetrate the bloodstream and yield numerous benefits. Methyl cobalamin, the coenzyme form of vitamin B12 is the active form, which means that no metabolic steps are required for its ingestion and it can be used it in its normal form.

Vitamin B consists of a group of eight water soluble vitamins that co-exist in certain food items. The eight subtypes of vitamin B are vitamin B1 (thiamine), vitamin B2 (riboflavin), vitamin B3 (niacin), vitamin B5 (pantothenic acid), vitamin B6 (pyridoxine), vitamin B7 (biotin), vitamin B9 (folic acid) and vitamin B12 (cobalamin). In medical terms, nutritional supplements containing all these eight subtypes are called vitamin B complex or simply B complex.

The role of vitamin B is crucial for the normal functioning of the body. To mention a few, it is responsible for promoting cell growth, cell division, skin health, immune system, nervous system and also in controlling the bodily metabolic processes. Hence, it is obvious that prolonged deficiency of vitamin B leads to certain health complications.

Considering this, supplements are formulated in the form of vitamin B complex tablets and injections in order to combat the risks of vitamin deficiency. Let’s discuss in brief about vitamin B complex injection and its dosage, benefits and side effects.

Vitamin B Complex Injections

Vitamin B complex injections are more effective in providing vitamin B to the body than other modes of administration (tablets, capsules and gels). The body enzymes and acids may alter the molecular structure of the vitamins once they are ingested. The injections are parenteral (not through digestive tract), most often administered intramuscularly or intravenously. They are more expensive than other B complex forms.

Vitamin B Complex Injection Benefits

Vitamin B complex injections aid in quick and maximum absorption of the vitamins by the body cells and tissues. Vitamin B complex injections are beneficial for people who have problems in taking oral vitamin supplements.

Vitamin B complex injections help with many conditions, including:

Dermatitis, psoriasis, increased fatigue, neuritis, difficulty in assimilation, stomatitis, anemia, intoxication, fever, severe burns, pregnancy, increased metabolism, impaired digestive tract, prolonged diseases, gastrointestinal disorders, alcoholism, burnout conditions, exhaustion, excessive stress, adrenal exhaustion, and various other B vitamin deficiencies. Vitamin B injections are mostly used by athletes, children, vegetarians and adults over the age of 50.

The therapy consists of application of freshly squeezed wild grass or wheatgrass juice into the skin and hair. After it absorbs and you take a shower, you’ll receive a mini massage with nourishing oils. The effect is feeling invigorated, very light and energized. Wild grass juice is very rich in anti-oxidants and many micro-minerals, as well as contains virtually all amino acids. Besides physical health benefits listed below, it is a compete treat for the body, hair and soul.

The treatment may be especially effective for people who have advanced digestive issues, eczema, psoriasis, skin inlfammation and other skin problems, as well as for those with various mobility issues, muscle weakness, and lung congestion like in asthma and COPD.

While by-passing intestine which function is often compromised in autoimmune and other health conditions, we’ll introduce a large amount of high quality nutrients into the cells and will deeply nourish them. The grass application also assists in increasing of cellular electrical conductivity and reducing inflammation. It also helps activate digestive system and other body systems needing support.
