Who Am I?

Becky holds a Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology (MC) and runs a private counseling practice in Courtenay, BC treating adults and couples/partners. Becky is a level 1 IFS practitioner specializing in trauma therapy and personal development. Her approach uses insight and awareness-based methods, somatic, and psychoanalytical methods.

Becky describes herself as a life-long “seeker and has studied many diverse topics including philosophy, political theory, writing, and spirituality. In her late 30s, Becky began to study psychology at a Master’s level with the driving goal of finding truly effective ways to treat complex trauma. She knew from experience that the cognitive approach alone was not enough, so she started to explore experiential trauma therapy approaches founded on theories from Alan Schore, Pat Ogden, Bessel van der Kolk, Steven Porges, Deb Dana, Peter Levine, and Gabor Mate. In addition, she knew that effective trauma healing needed to involve the spiritual domain of the person. When Becky was introduced to the Internal Family Systems (IFS) model, created by Richard Schwartz, she finally discovered a model that met all her criteria. IFS combines mind-body-spirit/heart in a powerful holistic therapy. IFS has recently been deemed an evidence-backed therapy. Becky has been practicing IFS extensively and passionately for the past two years in a clinical setting.

Becky works from the understanding that we all possess the core essence of love and compassion, but that we lose touch with this during adolescence and young adulthood development when our protective structures are needed (ie when we encounter stress and trauma). As wise adults, our job now is to come back to our core self (or soul, or seat of consciousness) so that we can move to the next developmental stage of releasing the protective structures and allowing our true joyful selves to be present again. The way to do this is by turning the light of consciousness inward and working with our personality structure in a receptive and compassionate way.

Becky has experience with various modalities such as polyvagal approach, EMDR, psychoanalytic approaches, existential therapy, emotion-focused therapy (EFT) for couples, and IFS for couples.

Becky was born and raised in Campbell River and has a deep connection to the land and culture. From a young age, she has found inspiration and spiritual connection in the surrounding wilderness. Becky lives with her two teenage children, her partner, and many other animals in beautiful Black Creek.
